Quantum Jumps Conference in Trieste

The Quantum Jumps Conference was held at the Abdus Salam International Institute for Theoretical Physics in Trieste and partly in Mali Losinj, an island belonging to Croatia. The first three days in Trieste were spent getting settled, organized, and holding an awards ceremony for GianCarlo Ghirardi who developed a Quantum Jump Theory that is much discussed and researched at the present time. The Institute is supported by the U.N. and is a beautiful series of buildings cascading down the mountainside above the Adriatic just across the road from the Hotel Riviera-Maximilian where we were assigned our room for the three days in Trieste. The attendees were a stellar group.

At the end of the three days, those scientists who had come by plane or train were all transported by luxury bus to Mali Losinj, and those who drove to the conference, as we did, had the option of taking the bus or driving the remainder of the way. We opted to drive since we had quite a bit of luggage and we planned to do some extra sight-seeing along the way.

The following photos are from the first three days of the conference. We left home on Saturday, spent the night in Cremona, and arrived in Trieste after a nice drive along the coast on Sunday afternoon. We were delighted to learn that we had been given a room overlooking the Adriatic and the first thing I did when we walked in the door was to open the French doors to let the sea breeze in and photograph what I could see from our terrace. I had in mind to photograph everything I could for all our readers to share with us this most interesting trip.
